 Abstract:  John May (1748-1812) and his son, Henry Knox May, (1780-1865) were merchants and shippers in Boston, Massachusetts, and proprietors of the Union Wharf (May's Wharf). John May was also a member and agent of the Ohio Company of Associates. His grandson, Edward Tuckerman May was an agent at the Boston Customs House. The collection consists of correspondence, financial accounts, receipts, speeches, estate papers, and other papers of John, Henry K., and Edward T. May, concerning John's land speculations, his work as land agent for the Ohio Company of Associates, his service with the Boston Militia in the Revolutionary War, and his business activities as wharfinger of Union Wharf (Boston); Henry's activities as agent for New England merchants in Alexandria, Va., and as merchant, shipmaster and wharfinger of Union Wharf (Boston); and Edward's work as Boston Custom House agent.

 Abstract:  Samuel Holden (1735-1789) was a Connecticut lawyer, legislator and militia colonel who became a general and commander of the 6th Connecticut Regiment of the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War. The collection consists of correspondence, enlistment papers, military appointments, orders, commissaries' accounts, supply orders, commissions, surveys of Western Reserve lands, accounts, receipts, legal papers, an index, a list of goods for Indian trade, and an orderly book.
